Another week, and another bunch of local beverage news to unpack! Between Rhinegeist kicking off their football sponsorship for this year’s Bengal’s season, a new bar that specializes in Steak and Frites, some joyful gushing about the homebrewing community and a few quick little story hits – there’s plenty to talk about, too! It’s all fueled by a ‘Jungle Bird’ cocktail and washed down by a glass of Esoteric’s Pilsner! Just a reminder that if you like this show, or if you like any of the stuff that I do, you can always support by becoming a ‘Gnomie’ by going to https://www.TheGnarlyGnome.com/su
Fibonacci's new owners are working to bring new life into the nano-brewery/urban farm - without changing it into something that detracts from it's uniqueness. We all love this place, and it's clear that these guys do, too.
The latest Cincinnati drinking news is ready for your ears! From Krogers new play in the wine industry, to a forgotten bottle of rum... there's a lot to explore!
Simplicity at it’s finest. The Highball isn’t about complication or fancy glasses, crazy garnishes, or a boozy drink… it’s about taking a spirit, and making it more approachable. It’s a thing of beauty when done right – and an embarassment when done wrong. What’s the story, though? What makes a great Highball? Where did they come from? Where do you even start? We’ll unpack it all on this episode – so make yourself a drink (2oz of any spirit, over ice, with four onces of soda water… it’s that simple) and let’s dive in!
Finding ways to make what we’re drinking taste the absolute best is can isn’t always about putting the best things in your glass (though, that’s always the best place to start) – instead, there are tons of little factors from the environment to the people that you’re drinking with that can change the drink itself. Let’s dive into that (with a drink in hand!) On this week’s episode, I drink some of Northern Liberties Rum Cask finished Bourbon, some Triple IPA from Hoof Hearted, and crack open a bottle of MadTree’s Joon
MadTree, even as they continue to change and evolve somehow manage to feel more and more like themselves. On this week's episode of Cincy Brewcast we talk about how MadTree fits into the picture of Cincinnati Beer today, and how they continue to do what they do. Head Brewer Brittany Frey shares her thoughts about the industry and where its going - and we OF COURSE - drink a few beers along the way.
I promised cocktails, so we’re going to drink cocktails. I didn’t promise that I’d find this week’s cocktail by any means more than randomly flipping through a cocktail book and picking one that looks tasty, though – but as it turns out, that’s a good method. The Fiesta Cocktail turned out to be a good one! It was a good start to some fun stories like the latest in the Lager House collaboration series coming this week, and the introduction of High Grain’s new canned cocktails: all fun stuff. From there – we had to take a big dive into the deep end as we tried to start unpacking the chaos of By
This week’s episode is about ‘Small Beers’ and their growth. It’s not just small format servings, though… breweries are leaning hard into lower ABV beers that meet drinkers where they are right now. The question that brings forth for me is what does this mean for drinkers? What does it mean for breweries, and most importantly – what the heck does it mean for the industry overall? It’s a booze fueled conversation… fueled specifically by a flight of four “Rums” – I say that lovingly… because one of them might have been some sort of rum-like NA option. It was weird, a little surprising, but in th
I’m not one to pay attention to what other people do to influence what I’m drinking – but the recent annoucement of Cincinnati’s ‘HighBall’ in OTR got me wondering if this is a sign of people not wanting big drinks… or if it’s just a part of the natural ebb and flow of the bar industry. How does one solve a riddle such as this? You drink a big old HighBall, that’s how. We might be getting ahead of ourselves. To kick off this week’s episode of The Weekly Pint we’re continued the journey that is lovingly called the “rumination” – that is my journey thorough the world of rum (one glass at a time,
This time of year feels like it was MADE for drinking something tasty. So what type of gnome would I be if I DIDN’T have something? I continue my quest through rum with a little taste of some Rhum Agricole in the form of Rhum JM VSOP, and follow that up with two beers – a perfectly on theme can of Rhinegeist Summer (a lemonade shandy) and a can of Highgrain and Nine Giant’s ‘High Giant’ collaboration. Good show? Yeah, good show. Standard mistakes… yeah, I make some of those. If you like this show, or any of the stuff that I make, you can support and become a Gnomie by going to https://www.TheG
With a bunch of fun new products being announced by local places this week, we have plenty to talk about on tonight's episode of 'The Show That Isn't A Show" - fueled by a mystery beer pick (that ends up being so good I had to pick the second choice too)! The Rumination continues with a bottle of Plantation (or is that Plantaray?)... all in all... It's a great way to kick off a new week!
