Moses was a prophet-leader. Moses used a rod as a tool in his assignment. Joshua was a warrior-leader. Joshua held a spear as a tool in his assignment. Even though Joshua was trained under Moses for 40 years, Joshua didn’t just try to “copy” Moses. God did not instruct Joshua to use a rod like Moses did.
