…come to an end. Well, the gangbuster fishing did just that over the past several days, and Capt. Kevin knows why. Do you? If you don’t – or even if you do – you can listen to the guys talk all about it, and all the tips and tricks they used to try and get around it. You can also listen in to find out what’ll be happening in the next several days…and maybe, just maybe, some more good things will start back up in First Coast waters. Facebook
For this special episode, the guys welcomed in Reid McCormick, a longtime Jacksonville Beach civic leader, former mayor, and Episcopal priest with deep multigenerational roots in the Beaches community. The McCormick family has long, deep roots in the First Coast community, and Reid shared many stories about the area’s history, it’s growth and development over the years…and he threw in plenty of great personal stories, too. If there’s ever been an episode to kick back, listen and learn, this is the one. As Capt. Kevin says…”Great stuff!” Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Capt. Ki
Sure, the heat is pretty brutal these days, but that’s to be expected on the First Coast this time of year. The storms, however, are a little bit nastier than Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects had been hoping for. Even during this episode, the bad weather made it rather challenging for some of the guys to call in! Get the latest, and find out if the upcoming forecast gives us all something to look forward to. Facebook
With Jeff handling his Jaguar duties in New Orleans, Capt. Chip Wingo joined Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk to talk about the beautiful weather we have here on the First Coast. JUST KIDDING… IT’S FLIPPIN’ HOT! The guys talked about it, threw out some tips to try to get through it, and what was biting in spite of it. Lots of great fishing and shrimping talk all show long, so enjoy! Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc Gear Tip of the Week: Bonita are everywhere on the beach right now. If you wanna catch ’em, try out Captain Kirk’s favorite jig – the Williamson Gomame Jig 50! Click HERE to get ’em.Here’s your
Capt. Kevin didn’t take long to make it officially official: it’s the DOG DAYS! Yep, it was crazy hot…but how crazy did everything get from the heat? Listen in to find out what everyone had to say, and more importantly, find out what the forecast has in store everyone. Facebook
The guys were back together and in the studio for this episode, and they were rather excited – the change in the weather brought on some hungry fish. What a week! The guys, along with the callers, were talking about the good, the bad and the ugly on the water…and along the side of the road. You’ll have to listen to know what that means, but this story has earned Capt. Chip Wingo a new theme song. Throw in a little sideways conversations involving opossums and three-legged raccoons, and you’ve got one heck of show on your hands (or in your ears). Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week:
Capt. Kevin was kinda like Dr. Frankenstein – no, he wasn’t creating a monster out of spare parts. But he sure was paying attention to the water and noticing just how lively the water was. He, as well as the Unusual Suspects, noticed how busy the fish were…and how busy Mother Nature was as well. Check out the reports and the forecast to find out just how ALIVE it’s going to be for you in the upcoming week. Facebook
With Capt. Kevin gettin’ after it in the King of the Beach tournament, Capt. Kirk and Jeff welcomed in Tru Luvin Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia to chat it up in the studio. The talk was, as expected, fish-heavy – things have been pretty great, and with King of the Beach underway, there was plenty to talk about. They got updates throughout the show from several members of the OS Family, and based on what they heard, it sounded like it was shaping up to be a good tournament. Speaking of Capt. Kevin, it didn’t take long for him to send in a photo of a nice king he caught…on the first bait they droppe
If you’re old enough, you remember that guy from “Laugh In” who just didn’t get it – everything was “very interesting”. Well, when the water temp does what it’s been doing, the fishing gets very interesting, too. Check out updates and insights from Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects, and listen in for the forecast to see if the upcoming is going to be just as interesting. Facebook
Seems like the best stories happen in the summer, and this episode was all about the stories – from tarpon fishing to wrestling hungry gators and everything in between! The stories came from all directions, too – from the boys themselves, from a couple of OS Hall of Famers, and a bunch of other callers, too. If that wasn’t enough, after the Gemlux Trivia Question, conversation picked up about best outdoor-related movie – Dances with Wolves, Jeremiah Johnson, The Revenant…which one is your favorite? Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: I’ve used a Claber nozzle on
For the past several weeks, Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects have been pretty unanimous in their praise for the weather and the fishing conditions here on the First Coast. But just like everything else, things change – or do they? Well, sometimes it just depends. On the day. On the time of that particular day. On your location at that particular time of that particular day. Which way you’re coming and going as it relates to that particular location on that particular time on that particular day. You get the idea. Stay tuned to find out what the forecast is doing, so you can prepare yoursel
The boys packed up the trucks and headed out on the road for this episode. Their destination: Arlington Bait & Tackle! Lots going on, and lots of people were there – including Capt. Chip Wingo and Domenic Paniccia. The weather was a major topic of conversation, of course, and the big concern was the wind, and how it was going to affect everything on the water. When you’re at Arlington Bait & Tackle, it only makes sense to talk about, well, bait and tackle. If you’re looking for some insight into either (or both), you don’t want to miss this episode. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the w
There are certain expectations when it comes to fishing conditions in July around the First Coast. And although things are kinda following the typical pattern, Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects are noticing things are a little bit different. Listen in to find out exactly what’s different, whether its good or bad for the fishing, and how things are going to stack for the upcoming week. Facebook
Jeff made his return from an OSR stint on Sanibel/Captiva, and he brought plenty of fishing stories, tips and tricks back with him. Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk had their own stories to tell about what was happening in the water this past week – including the nasty afternoon winds they had to deal with. Finally, throughout the morning, anglers were checking in from the Greater Jax to talk about the kings they WEREN’T catching. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Add a block of beeswax to your toolkit for so many reasons – click HERE to see 101 of ’em! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip
Although everyone’s wishing we could get a little more rain to make up for the horrific drought we went through, Capt. Kevin is all about the fishing. It’s perfect! Well, almost… Find out what’s on the money and what’s off target from everyone, and get the upcoming forecast to see if everything falls into place for First Coast anglers. Facebook
Here’s something you can take to the bank: if somebody loves hunting and fishing and being in the outdoors as much as the guys, you can 100% bet they love the United States of America like crazy. They were THRILLED to have the opportunity to do a show on the 250th birthday of our great nation, and thrilled to have you be a part of it. This episode was filled with all the things that make our country great (including talk about all the great fishing that’s happening here on the First Coast), and it’s worth enjoying every minute. You’ll laugh, you’ll salute and you may even catch yourself tearin
The calendar may tell you it’s July, but if you ask Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects, it’s pretty much Christmas in First Coast waters right now. The fishing is simply spectacular. When you hear these guys – who fish for a living – say things like, “the best day I’ve ever had in my life,” it should tell you just how good things are. Get the stories, get the tips, make your plans and hook up, anglers. Welcome to paradise! Facebook
Jeff continued his 2026 Off-Season OSR Tour this week, but he checked in through the wonders of modern technology. Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk held down the fort in the studio – with BIG smiles on their faces. Why? Because the fishing has been EPIC! OTHERWORLDLY! STUPENDOUS! TREMENDOUS! Yeah, it’s been pretty darn good. The guys – along with lots of callers – dropped all kinds of details, stories, tips and tricks. The show also meandered into tick territory. Find out everything you need – and don’t want – to know about Satan’s favorite bug. And we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t mention
Capt. Kevin smelled like smoke in the studio – not because the place burned down, and not because he recently acquired a taste for Cuban cigars – but because the the fishing is cooking. SPOILER ALERT: when you hear him mention the phrase “world class” within the first five minutes, you’d better be listening to the whole show! The boys chimed in with their own tales of angling victory and the amazing things they’re seeing. And as for the forecast, you’ll be – well, listen in and find out… Facebook
With Jeff out on OSR, Capt. the studio became the Captain Collection – Capt. Kevin, Capt. Kirk, Capt. Chip Wingo, and Capt. Ricky Poupore! As you would guess, fishing talk dominated the episode. On top of all the stories, tips and tricks you’d expect, the guys also got follow up reports from the #1 and #4 finishers in last week’s Old School Kingfish Shootout. You do NOT want to miss the stories they had about their experiences. The Captain Collection also had a chance to reminisce about their friend Ben, and shared some hilarious stories about him. Jeff did call in from Kentucky, though, and h
It’s been a LOOOOOONG time coming, but the weather’s finally shaping up and First Coast fishing is as good as it gets…well, it’s getting there. Capt. Kevin talks about it, and the Unusual Suspects chime in with there thoughts and stories too. And make sure you listen in for the forecast – so you know exactly when it’s gonna get…as good as it gets. It’s Old School Kingfish Shootout Saturday! Capt. Kirk was doing OSR with his son, and Capt. Kevin was busy vying for the big money, so Jeff brought in Tru Luvin’ Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia and Rick Hall to fill the chairs and have some fun. Coverage began with the one and only Paul Dozier, who gave everyone the complete rundown on the tournament, and continued throughout the morning with calls from a bunch of Old School anglers – Harley Bryan from CSS, Dave Edwards, Capt. Chris Stevens, “Mullethead” Paul, and more. Here’s the bonus: not only will you hear reports about how they’re doing, but
Unless you’ve been living in a hole, you know Mother Nature has NOT been very kind to First Coast anglers. Well, if you ask Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects, they’ll tell you that’s all changing for the better! Get the details on a great couple of days and a forecast that’s making the Old School Kingfish Shootout look really good! Facebook
Jeff was out on OSR in Georgia, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk called on local icon Capt. Larry Miniard to sit in once again. The laughs started early, and they went all show long! The weather, unfortunately, has continued to be distinctly un-funny. Water conditions are still messy, wind continues to be pushy, salinity levels are still wonky…what’s an angler to do? FYI – things MAY be looking better (go ahead and cross your fingers). Now the great part about having a guy like Capt. Larry in the studio is the stories – it didn’t matter what the subject was…he had great stories for every single o
If you dive into the Fishing Forecast archives, when you get to the June episodes of years past, you’ll hear Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects, how bad they think it’s going to be, and check out the forecast to see if there’s a chance – however small – that things could get better for First Coast anglers in the coming week.
