Acts 17:16-34. Imagine being at the most prestigious university in the world and surrounded by intellectuals and telling them about the answers to life’s biggest questions. That’s where Paul was. He was by himself for a while in the great city of Athens. Some consider his ministry in Athens a failure. But, no doubt, it was a success.
Micah 6:6-8. Does God ask too much of his people? Is God hard to please? Have you ever felt that way? That’s the way God’s people felt at the time Micah wrote these words.
In Ex. 33, Moses asks God to show him his glory. It's chapter 34 when does on top of Mt. Sinai. This is also when God inscribes new stone tablets of the Ten Commandments for Moses. In showing his glory, God proclaims his name, which includes his personal name and six descriptions of his character that are significant for us to understand if we are going to truly know God.
James 1:22-25. Our youth minister, Kenley Dover, preached this morning for our Back-to-School service, but the message was for everyone as he taught us to not just be hearers of the Word of God, but also doers.
Isaiah 9:6-7. Today, we’ll see how David pointed us to Jesus and in that we see the heart of God for us. We’ve got to be people of changed hearts. People whose hearts belong to Jesus, completely love Jesus, and are totally transformed by Jesus. That’s the only way your faith is going to make a true difference in your life.
Psalm 103:1-22. Friends and family would use many different words to describe you, wouldn’t they? Kind, helpful, a good friend, fun to hang out with, loves God. One way we can describe David is that he was thankful and full of praise for God. And in Ps. 103, we’ll learn how we can be more thankful and full of praise for God because of all his goodness towards us.
Psalm 119:47-48. You would not think it unusual if you heard someone say something about how much they loved Jesus, would you? It wouldn’t be unusual to see something on a friend’s social media post about their love for Jesus. What you don’t hear much is someone saying how much they love the Bible, or to post something about that on social media. Some of the greatest words recorded in Scripture about treasuring the words of God are found in Psalm 119.
1 Samuel 17:1-58. We find that the Philistines, one of the main enemies of Israel in the OT, have drawn up for battle against Israel. Saul was king of Israel, and he had his army lined up ready for battle. They stood on either side of a valley, ready to fight. Then, out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath. He was a real giant! And the Israelites were terrified. Soon, David hears and sees Goliath himself and decides to face him. But what does this teach us? Why is this event recorded in the Bible? Because we also were in need of a champion.
Matthew 16:13-19. Matt Perkins preaches on the origins of the Lord's church. In this lesson we see where Jesus said he would establish his church on the confession of faith in him. His church was also foretold in the Old Testament when God gave Daniel a vision about a great and eternal kingdom. Jesus only established one church and the terms of admittance to the kingdom are the same as Peter made clear in Acts 2:38.
2 Corinthians 7:10-11. “Restoration” is when something is returned to either its original condition or even improved. Everyone has experienced brokenness in some way. All you have to do is keep living and you’ll experience some more. Sometimes what is broken is our purity. That happens because of sin. Sin causes impurity. Sometimes the problem is ongoing sin that causes the brokenness. Sometimes things have gotten so bad people wonder if anything can be repaired. If there’s any chance of fixing anything. The good news is that God is in the restoration business.
James 3:13-18. "Motivation” is a word we use when we’re talking about accomplishing something. We generally think of motivation in a positive way. But that’s not the whole story about motivation, is it? There are times when people do things to get ahead and they have wrong motivations.
Hebrews 13:4. Hebrews 13 lists several moral instructions for the Christian that the author wants to leave with us as he concludes this letter. One of those instructions is about marriage. Laws and social norms may change and say it’s okay to do whatever you want, but that doesn’t mean God changes his plan for marriage. Maybe you’re not married, and maybe you will be one day. But live today the way you’re to live in marriage. The same standards of purity apply to all.
2 Corinthians 11:1-3. We live in a culture filled with all kinds of elements. Many good, but not all. Many elements in our culture are spiritually toxic. I don’t want to be doom and gloom about culture, because, as I said, there are many great things to enjoy in life. But if we’re going to be followers of Jesus, we’ve got to see that there are spiritual pollutants we need to keep from. We need to remain pure in a polluted culture. Paul expresses both his deep love and concern for the Corinthians who were being led astray.
Matthew 5:8. How pure is your private life? What percentage would you give yourself? Your private life includes your home life around those closest to you, and who you are and what you do when no one is around. Followers of Jesus are called to be pure in every way, in every part of their lives, including pure in their private lives.
Proverbs 20:11. This Sunday morning was our Senior Sunday and our Youth Minister, Kenley Dover preached on our example being pure.
1 John 3:1-3. Moms like things clean. And we’re glad they do. That’s really good. In this new series, we’re kind of talking about that. We’re going to be talking about “Passionate Purity” and looking at purity from different angles. Today we’re looking at purity for our future. Moms are also concerned about our future, aren’t they? But more important than our future on this earth is our eternal future. And cleanliness, or rather, “purity”, spiritual purity, is important to our eternity. It is because of the hope the Christian has in Christ that we purify ourselves, as he is pure.
Galatians 5&6. In this lesson, we look at the last two chapters of Galatians where Paul says the Christian has true freedom. But what kind of freedom? Political freedom? No. Freedom from morality? No. Jesus came to give a freedom of far greater value than any kind of freedom on this earth.
Galatians 4. In the letter Paul wrote to the Christians in Galatia, he is straining to communicate to them that being a Christian is the best thing possible. He wants them to know that there’s nothing better than being a Christian. And the pure gospel is all they need. They don’t need to add anything or take anything away.
Galatians 3. Paul is the one who taught the Galatians about Jesus, and he can’t believe they’ve been so easily led astray by these false teachers that came through teaching Gentile Christians that to be truly right with God they have to follow some parts of the old law in addition to putting their faith in Jesus.

Galatians 2. False teachers wanted the Gentiles who became Christians to also follow some of the old law and taught them that they weren’t right with God until they also followed the law. This is Paul’s whole point in writing this letter to them – to show them that Jesus is enough. Jesus is sufficient.
Galatians 1. It has been said that Galatians is a commentary on Jn. 8:31-32, where Jesus said, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free", because the gospel frees us. The truth that Jesus taught gives us true freedom.
Acts 21:37-22:16. This morning’s sermon is aimed at helping people see clearly about how God saves sinners. You’ve heard different beliefs, but we want to do is look at the Bible and follow what it teaches. We want you to be sure you’re sure because your eternal life matters!
Matthew 27:22-23. In this series we’ve looked at how Jesus the Christ was promised, how he was presented to the world as the Christ, how he was revealed by the testimony of witnesses to be the Christ, and this morning we’ll conclude this series by looking at how Jesus was received by people as the Christ.
John 5:30-47. The Jewish authorities had already been challenging Jesus' authority and even looking for ways to destroy him and he gave four witnesses that revealed he was the Christ.
