A simple description of what is happening in the book of Revelation. We being this morning at Revelation 1:1-3
When we think of Jesus what comes to mind; a teacher, a healer, a revolutionary. Here in Revelation 1:4-20, we see Jesus in his true light; as the Crucified King; the judge of all.
Jesus is glad that Ephesus is a. church marked by truth, however they lack love and are to be marked by both love and truth
Simply Revelation. A simple explanation of what Revelation 2:2:18-29 means. It means Jesus’ people are to be marked with perseverance. They are to hold onto the gospel.
Simply Revelation. An explanation of Revelation 2:8-11. Jesus calls his people to be ready to suffer for him. Our suffering is not meaningless, but will be transformed into glory, as we head to the Resurrection.
Jesus’ people are to be marked by truth. They are to be people that know God as he has revealed himself and know him.
Witness is inevitable. A church is to be marked by witness to the living One Jesus. He is the one we love and order our lives around .
The church is to marked by renewal. Is worship of God flat? Is your church witnessing about Jesus to the world? Is there genuine community at church? the church should be a place for renewal.
Love him or hate him, but you cannot like him. The church is to be marked by devotion to Jesus. Many today, particularly in the West, like to think of Jesus as a teacher, or as a sage dispensing wisdom. However whenever you read Jesus in the gospels you’ll see, many experienced Jesus but none liked him. Some hated him, others feared him, many were devoted to him. Love him or hate him, but you cannot like him.
the throne room part 2. The Lion is the strong King, who lays down his life for his people as the slain lamb.
God sounds like a megalomaniac. As if he needs to be worshiped above all. However it is only over the top, if he is not worthy of that position. Why is he to be worshiped? In Rev 4:11 we see one little but important word that reveals why he is to be worshiped; “because”. Since he is the creator and sustainer of all things, upholding our lives every moment of every day, so he is worthy of all worship.
We all live under the reality of judgement. Whether we experience war, famine, disease or paint. The ultimate evidence of this judgment is death itself. Do you know the living King?
Judgement is good for those on the side of injustice. They cry out; How long until you bring justice and avenge our souls?
To those who refuse the lamb slain for them, the response at the final judgement is “fall on us mountains!” They would rather be crushed by mountains and fade into oblivion than face the Holy God on judgment day. Yet all must stand before God, either Jesus dies for you and wipes your account clean, or you stand before God and give an account for what you have done. In the end, someone pays.
Why doesn’t God just wipe out all evil finally and fully? This passage tells us why. He is awaiting the full and final number fo those who worship the lamb, and he will seal those in order that they not face full judgment.
Who are those in White? They are the ones who have washed themselves in the blood of the lamb. They will overcome the final judgment.
There is nothing left except to separate good from evil and cast the final judgment. Rev 8:1-5
How do you view time? this will affect the way we see the book of Revelation. This is our first section looking at the patterns within Revelation which will help us unlock the truth of what it is saying.
Revelation on repeat - The pattern - 2
John eats a scroll that is both bitter and sweet. We are about to hear the Revelation. What is the Revelation? We will find out tomorrow. But one thing we can know is that it will be bitter-sweet. Revelation 10
This is the message that John wants to convey to the people under pressure and persecution in the 1st century. Persevere and endure, even to death, for in doing so, you will overcome the enemy. Revelation 11.
The prequel to the story of the Spirit that will be unleashed over the coming weeks. This is the origin story for the presence of God.
The promise of the Father, is he will send his power. Can they trust him? They have many reasons to draw on, to trust him.
Jesus’ people are waiting on God to deliver on his promise. They are both spiritual (devoted to him in prayer) and practical (they got on with what needs to be done in the meantime).
The promise is fulfilled. The presence of God is here. His power comes to turn them into witnesses testify of the Risen Jesus all to the glory of God.
