Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”
In this sermon we continue in our study of the Lord’s Supper. What are the bread and the wine meant to symbolize? How does Christ commune with His people in the Supper? We consider some of these questions in this sermon.
Once again, Jesus uses imagery that is generally viewed negatively and shows how it is essential for the citizen of His kingdom. Hunger and thirst are typically seen as problems to be solved. Yet, when it comes to righteousness, hunger and thirst are blessed qualities. What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? How do we come to possess such a desire in the first place? What does it mean that those with such cravings will be satisfied? In this sermon, we will consider these questions together.
We continue our study of the Sermon on the Mount and come now to the Beatitude of meekness. This is a quality of the Christian that is often misunderstood and overlooked. Yet, we work to consider the Biblical understanding of the word and also see many examples in the Scripture of men and women who displayed this. Jesus himself is the chief example, for he did not revile and threaten when he was unjustly tried and crucified, but entrusted himself to the Father.
In this sermon, Kyle Young opens up the Beatitude “Blessed are the Pacifist” or more commonly known as “Blessed are the Peacemakers”. What does Jesus mean by this statement? How are we to practically reflect our Father in Heaven who has made peace with us through the cross of Christ? Listen in to learn more about this often overlook quality blessed by Jesus.
In this sermon we look at the first of the beatitudes that Jesus taught. Blessed are the poor in spirit is a strange sounding phrase to our modern ears. However, as we understand what Jesus means, we also see the door into the Kingdom of God and blessed reward that comes to those who learn this quality.
Before moving into the sermon on the mount, Matthew gives us a birds eye view of the ministry of King Jesus. So we consider in this sermon the acts or works of Jesus. From his teaching and preaching, to his healing and deliverance from demons, we see that Jesus truly is the promised Messiah and King!
As Jesus begins His public ministry, He calls his disciples to follow Him. In this we find some distinct ways that the call of Jesus transforms all who respond to Him with faith and obedience.
After John prepared the way for Jesus and identified Him as the promised Messiah and King, Jesus is tempted and proved in the wilderness of Judea. Then, according to the Scriptures, he begins his public ministry in the region of Galilee and a bright light dawns upon the people living in deep darkness!
