Today we continue our new sermon series in the book of James, Everyday Gospel. In James 1:5-8, James encourages his readers to ask God for wisdom, and to ask in faith without double-mindedness. Pastor Eric highlights these points from the text: 1) Ask God for wisdom. 2) Receive God’s wisdom. 2a. We receive God’s wisdom from the Word. 2b. We receive God’s wisdom through the fear of the Lord. 2c. We receive God’s wisdom through wise counsel. 2d. We receive God’s wisdom through life experiences. 3) Faith for God’s wisdom.
Today we start our new sermon series, Everyday Gospel, focusing on the book of James! In James 1:1-4, we see the author James introduce himself and his purpose for writing. He encourages the audience that through trials, God is producing in them steadfastness and ultimately making them more like Christ. Pastor Eric highlights three points from the text: 1) Expect trials. 2) Know what God is producing: Steadfastness. 3) Trust God’s refining process.
Today we look at Isaiah 6:1–8, where the prophet Isaiah’s vision of God’s immeasurable glory leads him to confess his sin, and God purifies him. Isaiah is then moved to surrender his life to whatever God asks of him. Pastor Eric highlights four points from the text: 1) Behold God’s unimaginable glory. 2) God’s glory leads us to humble repentance. 3) Humble repentance is met with extravagant grace. 4) Extravagant grace sends us into radical surrender.
Today we finish up our series, Who is King?, in 1 Samuel. In the final chapter of 1 Samuel, Saul and his sons die in a battle against the Philistines, as the prophet Samuel warned King Saul just a few chapters earlier. Pastor AJ highlights three points from the chapter: 1) Earthly kingships only end one way. 2) What we do affects others. 3) Our lives answer the question, “Who is King?”.
Today we continue in our series, Who is King?, in 1 Samuel. In chapter 29-30, David’s attempt to fight with the Philistines fails, and he returns to Ziklag. He finds Ziklag burned to the ground, with all the women and children taken captive. David inquires of the Lord, and decides to go up against the Amalekites to recover everything that was lost, including the women and children. Elder Kevin Geier highlights three points from the chapter: 1) God can be depended on. 2) God will not share our dependence. 3) In dependence, we find God’s presence.
Today we continue in our series, Who is King?, in 1 Samuel. In chapter 28, Saul is inquiring of the Lord, and not receiving any answers. He proceeds to seek out a medium, and she conjures up the prophet Samuel, who brings Saul yet another stark warning. Abigail intervenes with humility and generosity, preventing bloodshed and demonstrating that God, not David, would bring justice. He is given a vision by God instructing him to send for the apostle Peter, and just after Peter experiences a strange vision from God himself, three men arrive and he follows them to Cornelius. Cornelius asks Peter to share all that God has commanded. Pastor Eric shares three points as we work through the text: 1) God’s already at work (vs. 1-8). 2) God’s not done with us yet (vs. 9-23). 3) God is jealous for His Kingdom (vs. 24-33).
Happy Easter! He is risen! In 1 Corinthians 15, we see the apostle Paul defend the truth of the gospel, highlighting the witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection. Pastor Eric shares four points as we work through the text: 1) The Gospel is needed. 2) The Gospel is about Jesus (vs. 2-4). 3) The Gospel is true (vs. 5-8). 4) The Gospel demands a response.
