Theme: Christians are called to be people who speak the truth and are faithful to keep their word. Outline: 1) Don’t swear or take oaths to authenticate the truth (5:12a) 2) Make swearing/oaths unnecessary by always speaking the truth (5:12b)
James 5:10-11 (NASB) 10 As an example, brothers and sisters, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. Theme: In times of suffering, look to the prophets and Job for spiritual encouragement.
