As Paul draws the letter to a close, the final truths that Paul wants the Thessalonians to know is that the Lord of peace is with them. Hes with them as they face opposition, doctrinal confusion and social tension. In fact, the peace from the Lord is for all times and in every way. 2 Thessalonians #12 - Our world swings between blissful affirmation and cancel culture when it comes to dealing with people's sins, mistakes and disobedience. The Church has something much better in seeing a person restored from a wayward path. This week we look at one part of church discipline that seeks to restore a sinner and save them from a path of ruin. 2 Thessalonians #11 - We live in a world that wears us down. Seeking to do good in a world that is so disordered can be hard work. Yet Paul encourages the believers not to grow weary of doing such good. 2 Thessalonians #10 - Our culture has a very disordered relationship with vocation. Either making it into an idol, or becoming idle, neither path considers that one day this world will come to an end and we will stand before Jesus. Knowing where we are going helps us know what we should be doing. 2 Thessalonians #9 - We want to pray for the progress of the gospel since it is our greatest delight. We also want to pray for protection from opposition since there is great danger. 2 Thessalonians #8 - The word benediction simply means good word. There are significant good words throughout the Bible which are wonderful declarations of covenant blessings for Gods people. They state, for our great comfort, Gods gracious and loving disposition to us. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 - In contrast to the fate of the wicked, the future of the Thessalonian believers is safe since they are loved by God the son, chosen by God the Father and set apart to glory by God the Spirit. 2 Thessalonians #6 - Not all unbelievers have committed the sin of apostasy. Apostasy only describes unbelievers who once said they were believers. There are warnings throughout the Bible against this sin of falling away. In our passage this week Paul says that before Jesus returns there will come a time of great apostasy. A great falling away from Christ and his church. This passage warns us, but it is also a great encouragement for those with genuine faith (like the Thessalonians) that this is not us, and we can look forward to Jesus' return with great hope.Watch at: https://youtu.be/yuwdXwo
2 Thessalonians #5 - So who is the antichrist? What is he like? What does he do? Are there many antichrist's or just one? In this passage Paul doesn't want God's people to be out of their minds or alarmed when it comes to the end times. 2 Thessalonians #4 - Most Christians will confess they are not satisfied with their prayer life. In our passage this week Paul tells the Thessalonians what he prays for them and why he prays these things. It provokes penetrating questions of us. What is it that we pray for? 2 Thessalonians #3 - Ironically one of the ways our culture judges Christianity and finds it wanting is the bibles teaching that the who God exists will one day judge us.Increasingly, were told that we shouldnt believe in a God of judgement, and that if Gods people suffer in this world thats evidence that there isnt a good God who judges rightly. 1 Thessalonians 1: 5-10 says the opposite. Exodus Part 2 #18 - As Israel enters their whole new world of life in the promised land, how they remember their history will dictate how they live. If they forget they were once sojourners, they were oppressed, they were poor, they cried out for justice and the Lord heard them, then they will just become another oppressive Egypt. Exodus Part 2 #13 - Coveting is an inordinate desire to have what belongs to someone else. As Augustine said, Coveting is wanting more than enough. The command gets to our hearts and calls us to love the giver of gifts more than the gifts themselves. The remedy to coveting is contentment.
