When Jesus prays for his followers he prays for community. It's in community with others and with Christ that we find fullness.
Sometimes it's easy to feel God is absent, but His promise is that if we seek out His presence, we shall find it.
When we look at the story of Stephen in Acts we see how Jesus doesn't necessarily pull us out of the difficult times, but nonetheless is there looking down at us. We have only to look up to see Him.
When we look at the Early Church we see a community characterised by confidence in their faith in Jesus. How do we, as a modern church, rekindle that Christ-centred life?
The road of life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and like Jesus' first followers, we often find ourselves in places we didn't expect to be. However, wherever we find ourselves, Jesus is always there, walking with us.

The story of Lazarus highlights the experience we all have when it looks like God is not acting, not working and not present. The truth though, is that delay is not denial, He is coming, but not always in the way we expect.
God's Spirit is with us now and forever, and working that out is a lifetime's journey. It is that journey that we commit to through the rites of Baptism and Confirmation.
